Precision and Passion

"People need challenges": those were already the guiding words for the ambitious Munich entrepreneur Peter Denz, and served as the foundation for the business he founded in 1970. For the past 50 years, our partners have relied on our unrestrained striving for perfection. With our motivated staff, our solution- and customer-oriented mindset and the most modern technical tools, we are prepared and ready to take on any challenge that may come.

1970
An idea finds a place.

Engineer Peter Denz founds his business in the heart of Munich's Schwabing district. The business has two focal points: the development and manufacture of cinematographic products and the manufacture of high-precision milled and turned parts for demanding renowned clients.

1971
The first patent shows the way.

The DENZ success story begins with the birth of the first patent. DENZ revolutionised the world market with the first Video Control System. Numerous innovations such as the Servo-Zoom Control and the Adjustable Tilt Plate followed, and enabled further investment in the most modern machining centers.

1977
DENZ gets its official name.

The company takes on the name "Precision Development DENZ-Manufacturing GmbH" and starts planning efforts for developments regarding magnetic trains.

1980
DENZ grows into new facilities.

A move to Munich's east side provides new space for comprehensive investment in new, more advanced machining centers.

1987
DENZ joins the world community.

The company takes part in international trade shows, after further investment in innovative machines and specialized workrooms create the perfect prerequisites for the expansion of the professional film- and video-equipment business.

1990
DENZ excites the film world.

The breakthrough into the international market is complete with the introduction of the optimized "Color Video Control System" at a major trade show in Los Angeles. The entire industry is enthused.

1996
The Award goes to… DENZ.

The passion for quality-conscious and highly innovative development of game-changing products is finally recognized with a Technical Award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Peter Denz receives the award in the name of his company and his motivated team, and also receives the German Cinec Award. The successes once again lead to requirements for even more space, and DENZ moves to new facilities in Ottobrunn, with a main production area of 3400 square meters.

2001
DENZ joins the race.

High quality standards have given the company a clientele in part manufacture for the aircraft and spacecraft industries; these are soon joined by clients from Formula 1 racing, also needing the highest quality for their motorsport parts. In the meantime, the innovative developments in film- and video products continue: digital image transmission, directors' viewfinders, the Kardan tilt-and-shift system, bridge plates and the FFFS-19 follow focus become worldwide success stories.

2009
Quality gets a new name.

To quantify its quality standards, DENZ receives certification under DIN ISO 9001:2008. The FDC Flange Depth Controller is patented and introduced, allowing for the quick measurement of flange depth with digital cameras; it becomes a highlight of the NAB trade show in Las Vegas.

2010
DENZ goes Canon.

The successful DENZ Canon Evo Collection is launched, consisting of the well-known  DSLR 1D, 5D and 7D camera adaptations with PL lens mounts

2011
DENZ expands scope.

Following on continuing international efforts with expansion of the dealer network, DENZ goes in new directions with such products as the OIC optical viewfinder, the "Bogie" roll head and additions to the FDC product range for various camera mounts.

2014
Heads up.

The "Denzhead" is introduced as the first 180° roll head on the market, opening up new creative perspectives for filmmakers. 2015 also brings the OIC-35A switchable anamorphic directors' viewfinder and investment in the development of optical measurement systems for motion picture lenses.

2017
High Precision is called DENZ.

The success in the company's part-manufacturing division, particularly regarding parts for automated electronics manufacture, once again requires expansion of manufacturing capability. New 5-axis CNC machines from DMG with especial high-precision options and concomitant necessary supplementary cooling join the fleet. Precision in micron-range is now standard in series manufacture.

2018
DENZ shines once again with technical ingenuity.

The MFC65 automated lens projector makes its debut at the NAB in Las Vegas. In the following year, DENZ introduces the first full-frame directors' viewfinder with anamorphic viewing capability, maintaining their unmatched rate of innovation.

2019
The torch is passed on.

Founder Peter Denz retires at the age of 79, after 49 years in business. The company is acquired by the ARENIT group.

2020
DENZ turns 50.

The company's traditional image is adapted to expressly communicate the high quality standards and becomes truly modern. Appropriately, for its 50th birthday, DENZ presents the world with a modern, fully digital version of their video assist – this time for use with the OIC-FF full frame directors' viewfinder.
